No one was hurt Friday morning when an elderly man accidentally crashed his 2011 Hyundai Sonata through the front wall of Evelia’s Hair Salon, 7704 26th St., driving the vehicle halfway into the North Riverside business.

Police responded to the scene at about 11 a.m. and found the 81-year-old driver uninjured. The man reportedly told police he had just gotten his hair cut at the salon and was backing his car out of the parking stall when he noticed another vehicle driving through the parking lot.

To avoid striking the other vehicle, which was not on the scene when police arrived, the man said he put his vehicle into drive and pushed the accelerator too hard, sending the car into the building.

The owner of the salon was the only person inside the business at the time of the crash and was not injured. She declined to sign complaints against the driver, according to police.

North Riverside Building Department officials were called to the scene to assess the damage and condition of the building, which was not immediately clear.
