Reading Between the Wines
Riverside Public Library, in partnership with Riverside Foods, hosts the 3rd Annual Reading Between the Wines fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the library, 1 Burling Road.
Wander through the historic library to 12 different tasting stations and sip samples of organic and natural wines from Chile, Spain, Italy and France, along with ports, meads, ciders, hard Kombucha and samples from Riverside’s own Quincy Street Distillery.

Breaking through the small screen
Parent Community Network, in partnership with school districts 101, 102, 105, 106, 107 and 204, will present a free screening of “Screenagers Next Chapter: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience,” a documentary about parenting during the digital age on Thursday, Jan. 30, 7:30 p.m. at the Lyons Township High School North Campus Reber Center, 100 S. Brainard Ave. in LaGrange.

“Screenagers” examines the science behind teens’ emotional challenges, the interplay of social media and what can be done in schools and homes to help them build skills to navigate stress, anxiety and depression in the digital age.
The Brookfield Conservation Commission invites members of the community to “How to Bring Solar Power to Your Home,” a panel discussion where you can learn from residents who have already installed solar power at their homes.
The session, scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Brookfield Village Hall, 8820 Brookfield Ave., will explore solar panel efficiency, comparing panel systems, life expectancy of systems, buying versus leasing and overall return on investment.
TWS spotlights the music of Motown
“Motown Reflections Review” is presented by the Theatre of Western Springs at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 at Theatre of Western Springs, 4384 Hampton Ave.

Calling all chess players
St. Mary School’s Golden Bishops Chess Club and Chess Scholars will host their annual chess tournament on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Parish Center/Oak Room at St. Mary Parish, 97 Herrick Road, in Riverside.
The event is open to grades K-8. Cost is $45 per entrant and includes a pizza lunch. There will be five rounds, with each child playing in each round. Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 scorers in two divisions: kindergarten to third grade and fourth to eighth grade.
The best school team in each division will receive a trophy. Chess sets will be provided. Lunch and snacks will be available for parents for sale.
