Marjorie Ann Novak

Marjorie Ann Novak (nee Licar), 85, cherished for her compassionate, caring ways, and devotion to family died on March 21, 2020.

Born June 5, 1934, she was a longtime Riverside resident and the loving wife of the late Dr. Robert Novak, who preceded his wife in death in 2012.

Ms. Novak grew up in Cicero, graduated Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park and Rosary College (now Dominican University) in River Forest. She worked as a third-grade teacher at LaVergne School in Berwyn.

Following her wedding on June 7, 1958, she embraced marriage and motherhood. On rare occasions when she wasn’t focusing on family, she enjoyed traveling, music, entertainment, and her beloved club, comprising lifelong college girlfriends.

She leaned on her Catholic faith as a guiding light, serving her church community through the Altar and Rosary Society and numerous committees. She was a Girl Scout Marion Award leader, served on the Women’s Auxiliary of MacNeal Hospital (with particular pride for their scholarship program), and assisted Dr. Bob with his medical practice.

We will always hold dear the memories of her exceptional school lunches, vacation activity bags, great Easter baskets, precision ironing, family slide shows, and her humorous observations. Her love for life will endure forever.

She is survived by her brother, Tom (Kathy) Licar; her children, Mary (Tom) Piette, Cathi (Dave) Kirchner, Liz (Jeff) Palmer, John Novak and Rob Novak; and grandchildren Olivia Novak, Mackenzie Kirchner, Chase Kirchner, Alana Novak and Carson Kirchner.  She was a cousin of many and an aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Ms. Novak was preceded in death by parents, Helen and John Licar; her brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Phyllis Lycar; her sister, Connie (Jim) Blazek; and her brother, Jack (Mary) Licar.

A wake will be held Friday, July 9 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Adolph Funeral Home, 2921 S Harlem Ave. in Berwyn. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 126 Herrick Road in Riverside, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
