Riverside Public Library invites you to join Bridget Juister for a special Zoom presentation Feng Shui for Today on Thursday, June 25 at 7 p.m.

During the workshop you’ll take live tours of space and Juister will discuss why now is a great time to apply this ancient art into your life and how the bagua map works as a guide tool for your space and yourself.

16th Street Theater fundraiser

16th Street Theater in Berwyn has set a fundraising goal of $50,000 by the end of the night on Saturday, June 27, and is looking for your help to accomplish that.

Join them virtually on June 27 starting at 7 p.m. for the 2020 Benefit Bash. There’s no limit on attendees and it’s free to join in the fun – though you may want to splurge on some silent auction items.

The night begins with a “Cocktail 30” half-hour with staff from Autre Monde, who will show you how to mix fabulous alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. At 7:30 p.m., you’ll be entertained by a musical number, surprise guests, excerpts from past productions and live performances.

Bidding on silent auction items, which include original artwork by Tony Fitzpatrick, has begun. To register to attend the virtual event, to donate or to get in on the silent auction, visit the Benefit Bash website.

Film discussion via conference call

North Riverside Public Library invites all classic film buffs to participate in their next Films by Phone, a conference call discussion of a film you watch at home before the phone session.

On Tuesday, June 30 at 6:30 p.m., the discussion will be about the 1942 biopic “Pride of the Yankees” about the life and baseball career of Lou Gehrig, starring Gary Cooper, Teresa Wright, Walter Brennan and Babe Ruth himself.

The movie is available for free with your library card on the Hoopla app.

Solar energy workshop

Brookfield Public Library invites everyone interested in going solar to attend a special virtual presentation on Thursday, June 25 at 2 p.m.

A representative from the Citizens Utility Board will discuss the state’s new solar energy programs. Find out if your home is right for solar panels and learn about a new program that allows you to enjoy the benefits of solar without installing panels on your home.

Curbside pickup at North Riverside Library

North Riverside Public Library cardholders can once again get their hands on books and more via a curbside service program that kicked off June 16 and will continue for the foreseeable future.

You can place orders of materials from the library’s collection only by visiting online at catalog.swanlibraries.net/client/en_US/nrs and placing a hold on them. Or, you can call the library at 708-447-0869 during curbside hours, give your library card number and library staff will place the holds for you.

When your materials are ready for pickup, library staff will call you to set up a pickup time and parking spot in lot of the library, 2400 Desplaines Ave. Staff will walk your materials out to you and place them in the trunk of your vehicle.

If you walk or bike to the library, let them know and they’ll place the bag outside the door for contact-less pickup.

Curbside hours are Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  Brookfield Public Library offers virtual classes and programs for patrons of all ages throughout the week. Most youth activities will be presented live on the library’s Facebook page. Events include literacy classes and Geek Labs, Zumba for Families and Mammals & More. Youth Services will also host a weekly sidewalk art challenge on Sundays. Each week’s winner will receive a gift card to a local business.

Adults can participate in programs by signing up for events, including Chair Yoga via Zoom on June 25 at 11 a.m. and a Zero Waste Program on June 29 at 7 p.m. SCARCE will share tips on how you and your family can reduce your environmental impact.   Riverside Arts Center invites you to participate in a free community project – a Community Quarantine Quilt – that allows you be creative and virtually connect with others in the community. You can also order Boredom Buster Boxes to give the kids some hands-on fun. Each box contains 6 pounds of clay, a scoring tool, a sponge, six underglaze colors, a slip, a paintbrush and project and instruction sheets.
