One takeaway from the pandemic response that shut down public buildings, including the Brookfield Public Library – Brookfield library card holders really like this curbside service idea.
Since curbside service was launched June 3, according to Library Director Kimberly Coughran, staff have served an average of about 50 patrons daily.
“The library is covered in brown paper bags,” Coughran said.
So, when Brookfield Public Library, 3609 Grand Blvd., opens its doors for limited indoor services on July 8, the curbside service program will remain a priority.
But, the library will offer – on an appointment-only basis – use of some services for an hour at a time. The library’s hours will remain the same as curbside pickup, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Library officials are allowing patrons to reserve time to use computers, the photocopier and scan/fax station and notary public services. Patrons can use computers for one hour at a time, although that could be extended if there are openings in the schedule, Coughran said.
Patrons will not be allowed to browse the stacks or use other rooms in the library.
“It’s basically for folks who don’t have home internet service, and things people can’t otherwise get access to,” Coughran said.
To make a reservation, patrons can call 708-485-6917, ext. 130 or email email@example.com. Patrons won’t not be allowed to enter the library unless they’ve made an appointment.
Employees and patrons must wear face coverings while inside the library and staff will sanitize computers, door handles and all high-touch surfaces often daily. All materials returned to the library will be placed in quarantine for 72 hours before making them available again to the public.
In addition to the curbside service and limited onsite services, patrons can still avail themselves of the library’s digital collections of movies, e-books and more 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The library will also continue to offer virtual events and presentations on its Facebook page and via Zoom. Patrons looking to talk to a librarian can schedule a one-on-one “Book a Librarian” appointment, which can be held over the phone or via Zoom, by calling 708-485-6917, ext. 130.
