Gary R. Obediah (Powles), 69, of Brookfield and formerly of Norridge, died July 24, 2020 at his home.
Born in Chicago on Oct. 27, 1950, Mr. Obediah was an installer with the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Local 1185 since 1989. He loved books and was an avid reader with eclectic tastes.
Music was also an important part of his life, learning guitar and most recently mastering “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on the ukulele. High on his list of hobbies were golf and riding his motorcycle as often as he could.
Mr. Obediah was the husband of Laurie (nee Koc); the father of Shale (Mark) Chiappetti, Nina (Brian Berlin) Obediah-Berlin, Maggie (Adam Conard) Obediah, Alison (Matt) Cardoso and the late Amy Evans; the grandfather of Ashley, Nathan, Mark, Alexis, Mariah, Jacob, Benjamin, Luke, Violet, Charlie, Roman, Leo; great grandfather of Noelani, Jaycee and Noel; the brother of Sue (John) Zeller, Pam (Joachim) Ungruh and Bill (Gayle) Powles; the uncle of 22 nieces and nephews; and the great-uncle of 36.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be planned when it is safe for all of us to get together again. Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1200, Chicago, 60601 would be appreciated.
