On Labor Day, the pool at Riverside Swim Club in downtown Riverside officially went to the dogs.

To close out the abbreviated 2020 summer swim season, club officials called on their member families to bring their dogs over for a plunge – “Your ONE and ONLY chance to let your dogs take a dip in the RSC pool!” an invite declared.

Sept. 7 was not just the end of the 2020 swim season, shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic and state of Illinois’ phased reopening plan, it also marked the end of an era.

After almost 60 years, the private club is about to embark on a wholesale renovation – new, enlarged clubhouse with a wraparound deck; new eight-lane pool, zero-depth kids’ pool and deck; and anew sport court.

Demolition is scheduled for the fall with the new pool expected to open for summer 2021.
