Phillip Hammerschmitt

Phillip Hammerschmitt, 84, of Brookfield, died July 22, 2021.

Mr. Hammerschmitt was a computer engineer until his retirement. Most of those years he was employed by IBM. In June of this year, Phillip and his wife, Carolyn, celebrated 59 years of marriage. 

He will always be remembered for his great stories and for the weekly “papa cards” that he sent to all of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hammerschmitt was the husband of Carolyn Hammerschmitt (nee Crothers); the father of Beth (Tom) Kraus, Timothy (Rizalina) Hammerschmitt, Douglas (Emmanuelle) Hammerschmitt and Amy (John) Stinson; “Papa” of Ian (fiancée Erin), Sean, Haley, Morgan, Sydney, Andrew, Noah, Nathan and Brianna; great-grandpa of Degan and Delaney; the brother of Bruce (Linda), the late Patricia and Marilyn; the uncle of many nieces and nephews; and “master hugger” of many.

A funeral Mass was celebrated July 26 at St. Louise de Marillac Church in LaGrange Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven, Hillside.
