One person was transported to the hospital following an apparent “expressway shooting” near Interstate 290 and the eastbound Desplaines Avenue exit ramp in Forest Park on Monday night, according to the Illinois State Police.
The incident was reported at 8:18 p.m., an Illinois State Police spokesperson said, and ended with the driver of one vehicle transported to the hospital with “serious injuries due to gunfire.”
According to Forest Park Police Chief Ken Gross, officers pursued a vehicle southbound on Desplaines Avenue for about two miles before the vehicle crashed just outside of Bar-Tini Lounge in the 2400 block of Desplaines Avenue in North Riverside.
After the crash, police rendered medical aid to a person in the vehicle who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. That person was later transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. No further update on their condition was available.
A number of shell casings were recovered from the Desplaines Avenue exit ramp, Gross said.
The incident is being investigated by the Illinois State Police.
