Barbara Marie Dilelio (nee Pettinato), 77, of Riverside, died peacefully surrounded by her daughters, Nicole Bach (Jeffrey) and Allison Sloan (Michael), and her loving husband of over 55 years, Ronald “Buzz” Dilelio, on Jan. 6, 2022.
Ms. Dilelio was born in Chicago on Aug. 1, 1944 to the late Nicholas and Albena Pettinato. She often spoke of fond memories growing up on Taylor Street with her brother, Peter Catham, and many aunts, uncles and cousins whom she remained close with throughout her entire life.
She went on to work at 20th Century Fox and later spent many years working at Finn Insurance Company.
Ms. Dilelio felt her greatest accomplishment was her family. Barbara married Ronald Dilelio in 1966 and had two daughters and seven granddaughters, Avery, Grace, Olivia, Kaelyn, Keira, Riley and Eila, who all adored her. Being their grandmother was her greatest joy of all.
She loved to travel. Together, she and Ron have been all over the world. Her favorite vacation spot was Marco Island, Florida, where she and Ron spent many winters escaping the Chicago weather.
Ms. Dilelio loved spending time with family and friends. She was happy to attend a school performance or game of a granddaughter. She enjoyed shopping, going to restaurants, crocheting, and was an avid reader.
She was once fond of golf and playing cards. She was a wonderful chef and loved to cook big Italian meals. She taught her family recipes that will be passed on for generations. Barb was truly loved by everyone who knew her. She had a great sense of humor and could make anyone laugh with her quick wit and funny stories.
In honoring Barbara’s wishes, interment was private. A small celebration of life with family and friends will take place at a later date. More information will be sent at that time.
Arrangements were handled by funeral director Brian Kuratko.
