Free tax help for seniors

AARP Tax Aid is back at Riverside Public Library, 1 Burling Road, and the Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library, 3541 Park Ave., in 2022.

Volunteers will provide free tax assistance with special attention to those ages 60 and older on certain days beginning in February through the first week of April.

AARP will be at the Riverside Public Library on Wednesdays beginning Feb. 9 through April 6. Their volunteers will be at the Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library on Fridays beginning Feb. 11 through April 8.

You must register for appointments in person at the respective libraries. Upon registration you will receive a packet of information to fill out prior to the appointment.

Naz offers parent program in Spanish

Nazareth Academy presents the next installment of its virtual Parent Speaker Series on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. with a presentation on “Raising 21st Century Teens” by psychologist Dr. Ferney Ramirez.

In this Spanish-language presentation conducted via Zoom, Ramirez will talk about how best to encourage students’ efforts to increase motivation, set goals for school success and how to support students during the COVID era.

The discussion is free and open to the public. Registration is required by visiting online.

Kiddieland Remembered


The Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library, 3541 Park Ave., brings back cherished childhood memories during “Kiddieland Remembered” on Monday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m.

Learn about the beloved amusement park, which was located at the corner of First and North avenues in Melrose Park from 1929 to 2009. The presentation walks through the park’s history with exclusive videos, photos and a display of Kiddieland memorabilia.

The program is presented via Zoom but attendees have the option of watching from their homes or the library.

Need a little help with your smartphone, laptop or e-reader? Don’t know what to make of Wi-Fi hotspots, Roku or tablets? Drop in at North Riverside Public Library, 2400 Desplaines Ave., on Wednesday, Feb. 3 between 4 and 6 p.m. and get some one-on-one help.

Classic radio show recreations

Riverside Township Radio Players will recreate two more classic shows from the Golden Age of Radio during their next performance on Friday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Riverside Township Hall, 27 Riverside Road in Riverside.

The troupe will present the episode “Wine of Freedom” from the adventure show “Cloak and Dagger” and a sci-fi drama “Mars is Heaven” from “X Minus One.”

Willow Springs Road in Western Springs, will be open to the public from 6 to 7 a.m. on days LTHS is in session. There is no admission charge or fee to use the track.
