Jeroma Zahour

Jeroma Zahour, 95, of Brookfield, died peacefully and surrounded by her children, Paul Zahour (Teri), Andrea Peckham (Kymm), and Kristen Kline (John Mavencamp) on Feb. 9, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her husband George; her parents, Rudolph and Agnes Zach; her brothers, Lumir and Eugene; and sister, Camille Zach, all of Buhl, Idaho.            She has 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ms. Zahour graduated from the Rush Presbyterian School of Nursing in 1948 in Chicago. She began her nursing career in Pocatello, Idaho. 

After lovingly raising her children, she worked as a substitute school nurse for local school districts 95, 98 and 208. She also substituted at the Berwyn Health Department and worked at Colonial Manor Convalescent and Nursing Home in LaGrange prior to her retirement in the late 1990s.

Ms. Zahour volunteered at the Brookfield Zoo for more than 47 years, nearly as long as the 50 years the zoo’s volunteer program has been in existence. 

One of her greatest joys was to share the zoo experience with her children, grandchildren and many friends. She enjoyed being part of the zoo and visiting weekly with her volunteer colleagues. She was also a Cub Scout den mother and a Campfire leader with her children.

Services have bene held. Interment is at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Forest Park.
