Vivian Dorothy Rogala, of Galena and formerly of Cicero and LaGrange Park, died Feb. 7, 2022.

Ms. Rogala was born Aug. 21, 1925 and was raised in Chicago where she helped in her parents’ grocery store at Ogden and Kostner avenues. She graduated from Corkery High School in 1942. 

An accomplished pianist, she furthered her education at the American Conservatory of Music (B.A.), Loyola University of Chicago (B.A.) and DePaul University. She worked as an administrative assistant at Loyola Medical Center and the University of Illinois at Chicago and was a private piano teacher for many years to hundreds. On her recent 96th birthday she received over 75 birthday postcards, many from former students.

A life member of the Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity and the National Guild of Piano Teachers, she loved to teach music to students of all ages. 

As a volunteer tutor at Morton College, she received the George C. Russo Project CARE tutor of the year award in 2006 where she taught ESL classes to many Spanish-speaking students. 

Ms. Rogala was a devout Catholic and an active member of Mary Queen of Heaven Parish in Cicero for many years.

Auntie Vivian was a special person, always helping her family and others in any way she could and her family were all blessed to have her in their lives.

She was the aunt of Robert Rogala, Cara (Tony) Spalla, Leanne (Ed) Digan and Susan (Steve) Ciangi; the great aunt of Sean Digan, Anthony Spalla, Frank and Sam Ciangi; and  sister-in-law to Susan C. Rogala.

Ms. Rogala was preceded in death by her mother, Mary; her father, Frank; her brother, Robert; and her nephews, Alex and David Rogala.

Visitation on Wednesday, Feb. 16 starts at 10 a.m. at St. Louise De Marillac Church, 1144 Harrison Ave., LaGrange Park, with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment is at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice.
