The Riverside-Brookfield girls track & field team enjoyed a historic team victory at the Lemont Invitational Saturday.
“We have not [done this before] in the eight years that I have been here,” R-B coach Ian Robins said.
The Bulldogs earned event titles from junior Ava Connerty (100-meter high hurdles, 17.51) and the 1,600 relay with senior Ashley Vazquez and junior Lily Kocourek, Joaliz Rodriguez and Bryce Pacourek (4:34.81).
Maia Nelson (3,200 in 14:30.22), Pacourek (1,600 in 5:51.92), Rodriguez (300 low hurdles in 53.44), Gelb (800 in 2:44.14) and the 3,200 relay (Maria Dalton, Kocourek, Gelb, Pacourek, 11:05.19) were second.
Sophie Singh (100 hurdles in 19.36), Antonia O’Keefe (23.53m/77 feet-2 inches, discus), Ashley Vazquez (400 in 1:07.18) and Connerty (300 hurdles, 55.53) were third.
The Bulldogs (11-2) extended their winning streak to nine Thursday by beating Kenwood, 15-8, after topping Chicago Christian, 15-0, and Wheaton Academy, 12-2, the previous two days.
Sean McDermott had 4 runs batted in and one of four doubles by the Bulldogs Thursday. Owen Murphy tallied his 9th home run.
Murphy hit a grand slam en route to 5 RBIs against Chicago Christian. Winning pitcher Jax Giampietro and Peter Styx combined for a 4-inning 1-hitter.
Jack Niekrasz struck out 6 against Wheaton Academy. Murphy and Ryan Novak homered in the first inning.
Sophomore catcher Zoe Levine’s huge week helped the Bulldogs (6-3) defeat York, 11-2, Saturday and St. Francis, 15-7, Thursday.
Levine went 4 for 4 with 4 RBIs and a walk Thursday and 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs and a walk Saturday. Levine now is hitting .586 with 4 homers, 21 RBIs and a team-best 17 hits.
R-B boys volleyball
Iggy Bielobradek delivered 8 kills as the Bulldogs (10-7) defeated Ridgewood, 25-20, 25-11, April 12.
R-B lost to Downers Grove North, 25-22, 25-21, Monday and Oak Park and River Forest, 26-24, 25-21, Thursday.
Kenny Fedorski (5 kills, 5 digs), Ricardo Ulloa (8 digs) and Angel Herrera (2 solo blocks) led R-B Monday. Burns had 7 kills and Fedorski 7 digs against OPRF.
Zona Evans and Katie DeJesus (No. 2 doubles) and Emilia Orszulak (No. 4 singles) were flight champions as the Bulldogs finished third at the Glenbard South Invite Saturday.
Claire Shanahan and Alyssa Krivak (No. 1 doubles) and Marisa Sandoval and Abbey Castelino (No. 3 doubles) were second. Alice Sylvia (No. 1 singles) and Claire Harrison (No. 2 singles) were third.
R-B defeated Argo, 11-4, April 13.
R-B water polo
The R-B boys (8-8) earned their third straight victory by beating Schaumburg, 16-2, Monday. The Bulldogs also won their Senior Night match, 12-3, over Bremen, April 12, and beat Maine East, 13-1, April 8.
Liam Mathews (38 goals, 15 assists), Luke Harder (21 goals, 14 assists) and Hayden Marrs (15 goals, 25 assists, 46 steals) are the Bulldogs’ scoring leaders.
The R-B girls finished fourth at Saturday’s York Tournament, losing to Sandburg, 10-6.
The R-B girls (2-4) lost to Montini, 16-13, April 11. Stat leaders through six games include Ava Regan (28 goals, 17 ground balls), Maggie Durkin (18 goals, 14 ground balls, 19 controlled draws) and goalie Ella Gomez (76 saves, .539 save percentage).
The R-B boys (2-5) lost to Buffalo Grove, 8-4, and Andrew, 16-2.
