Francis J. Gay

Francis J. “Frank” Gay, 93, of LaGrange Park, died May 4, 2022 at home.

Mr. Gay was born in Oak Park on July 18, 1938. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a longtime member of the Broadview/Hillside American Legion Post #626.

He worked as a union sheet metal worker prior to retirement. Mr. Gay’s greatest joy was being surrounded by his children and grandchildren for any celebration. He enjoyed many rounds of Ship, Captain and Crew with them in addition to his monthly games with his fellow legionnaires. A fan of the Indy 500, he inspired three more generations of race fans.

He was the husband of the late Kathryne “Kay” (nee Leufgen); the father of the late Mary Jane (Roger) Leisten, James (Susan) Gay, Donald (Anna) Gay and Robert (Ann) Gay; the papa of Michelle Leisten, Kari (Rich) Bauerlein, Amy (John) Moore, Jamie (Brandon) Strauss, James (Shannon) Keating, Jackie (Matt) Boskovich, John Keating, Kara Keating, Kevin Gay, Natalie Gay, Michael Gay, Ryan Gay, Brandon Gay and Adam Gay; the great-papa of Evan and Mila Bauerlein, Owen Moore, Max and Axel Strauss, Calum and Ada Keating, Zoey, Hailey and Penelope Boskovich; the brother of Marianne (late Raymond) Billings; the brother-in-law to Mary Ann (Karl) Knorps, those departed in the Leufgen family and an uncle to many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation is Wednesday, May 11 from 9 a.m. until time of prayers at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Nosek Funeral Home, 3847 Prairie Ave., Brookfield. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
