Good news, Polar Bear is open! Located at 7901 W. Cermak Road in North Riverside, Polar Bear has been serving delicious frozen treats since 1948 and they are in full gear for the 2022 season.

There was nothing better than a cone or a shake to satisfy those hot summer day cravings. It’s a small place, but it has a wide variety of eats to choose from on their extensive menu. Something not available everywhere — but it is at Polar Bear — is a funnel cake, that carnival delight that sticks to your fingers.

Over the many years, local teens had as their summer job filling orders at Polar Bear. That also brought in customers who wanted to see the “cute” guy or girl working at the stand. Wouldn’t be surprised if many a summer romance happened over a twist cone.

Winner, winner … The Riverside Township Lions Club will have their annual chicken dinner this Sunday, May 15 from noon to 5 p.m. The format will be a little different this year in that it will be a drive-thru pickup at the Riverside Presbyterian Church, 116 Barrypoint in Riverside. Tickets are available for $13 from any Lions Club member or purchased at the event.

This event is the club’s only fundraiser, which benefits local and Lions Club philanthropic causes. Due to COVID-19, the Lions Club had to minimize the event, but still wanted to continue their social and philanthropic work within the area. The Lions Club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 5:45 p.m. at Connie’s Restaurant, 3271 Harlem, Ave. in Berwyn, for a dinner meeting which includes a program as well as the regular business meeting. Guests are always welcome.

Did you hear? Riverside’s Person of the Year is Connie Guardi! More information coming at a later date.
