Anna E. “Betty” Roegner (nee Wuerfele), of Brookfield, died peacefully on June 4, 2022. She was 93 years old.
Born in Burlington, Kansas, on May 10, 1929, the daughter of George and Fonda (nee Graham) Wuerfele, Betty lived in the Chicago area for many years and was a longtime employee of Fannie Mae.
She met the love her life, Rupert Roegner, in 1949 through a mutual friend Betty worked with at a bank. The couple married on June 10, 1950 and would enjoy over 50 years of marriage until Rupert’s death in 2004.
In addition to her husband, Ms. Roegner was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Georgie Ethel, Mildred Stillian, Alberta Wuerfele, Lucile Woods and Marguerite Myers. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Ron) Shook; her son and gracious caregiver, Mark Roegner; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Ryan) Briggs, Ben (Meredith) Shook, David (Liz) Shook and Jon (Mary) Shook; and six great grandchildren Michael, Jackson, Chris, Caroline, Donovan and Lily.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Visitation is Tuesday, June 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hitzeman Funeral Home, 9445 31st St., Brookfield. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 8 at noon at Woodlawn Cemetery, 7750 Cermak Road, Forest Park. Please meet at entrance.
