Junior setter Abby Markworth recorded her 1,000th career varsity assist on Aug. 26 as the Lyons Township High School girls volleyball team (4-0) swept Homewood-Flossmoor 25-10, 22-25, 15-8, New Trier 13-25, 25-20, 15-6 and Fenwick 25-10, 25-15.
Markworth collected 62 assists, including 26 against H-F. Double-digit match efforts also came from Kamryn Lee-Caracci (13 kills) and Markworth (11 digs) against H-F and Lee-Caracci (10 kills) and Kiley Mahoney (10 digs) against New Trier. Grace Brennan had nine kills against Fenwick.
LT outlasted Lockport 18-25, 27-25, 25-16 in the Aug. 24 season opener.
RBHS girls volleyball
The Bulldogs went 1-4 at Plainfield South’s Crimson Classic, beating Rockford Guilford 21-25, 25-12, 15-9 after two earlier losses in two sets. Elise Verdin, Annabel Krueger and Christina Savaglio were among the Bulldogs’ top tournament performers.
RBHS golf
The RBHS girls are 3-2 and 0-1 in the Metro Suburban Conference with a 158-170 loss to favorite St. Francis on Aug. 25.
The Bulldogs have beaten Shepard 167-246, Glenbard South 173-175 and West Chicago 173-239.
Mayan Covarrubias has had the team’s top score three times with three rounds between 36 and 39. Lucia Vazzana also has had four counting scores with a team-best 35 against Shepard. Ava Storandt and Taryn Schultz have had three counting scores and Sophia Swicionis two.
The RBHS boys lost their first MSC duals to Timothy Christian (177-186) and Wheaton Academy (135-162). The Bulldogs have dual victories over De La Salle (159-171), Argo (342-376) and Joliet Catholic (342-382) in a triangular.
LTHS golf
The LTHS boys opened West Suburban Silver action by beating York 144-168 on Aug. 23 after beating Naperville North 152-167 in the Aug. 17 opener and Hinsdale South 149-170 and taking second of four teams (299) in a quad with Hinsdale Central (293), York (313) and St. Charles East (323).
Jack Berry has had the Lions’ top score each match, including 3-under-par 33s against York and Hinsdale South. Charlie Novak and James Frehner have had counting scores three times.
The LTHS girls are 2-1 in WSC Silver duals, beating York 155-163 and Glenbard West 155-176 while losing to defending champ Hinsdale Central 154-187. The Lions were fourth at the season-opening Plainfield North Invite Aug. 11 (352).
