The Riverside-Brookfield High School girls soccer team has been busy — and successful.

The Bulldogs (5-2) captured the Glenbard South Invitational last week with a perfect 3-0 record and no goals allowed in the round-robin form on March 20-23. They beat Montini Catholic 2-0, Lake Park 1-0 and the host Raiders 2-0.

Also playing in the Windy City Classic, RBHS beat De La Salle 4-2 in their March 14 season opener and Reavis 5-0 on March 16. They lost 5-0 to Lincoln-Way Central, third in IHSA Class 3A last season, on March 17 and to Andrew. 

Junior Niamh Larson has five goals, including two at Glenbard South, with assists from Abigail Jurkovic and Maddie Bisiules. Larson also received credit for an own goal against Lake Park after her header from a Hazel Hall cross went off the post.

Rubi had three goals against Reavis and Nina Bretz added three assists. Hall has two goals. 

RBHS boys volleyball

The Bulldogs opened their season March 22 with a 25-23, 25-23 home victory over Morton and then finished 3-2 at the Joliet West Invitational on March 24-25, beating Bolingbrook in two sets and Joliet Catholic and Plainfield South in three. 

Top performers have been seniors Sebastian Ciszewski (28 kills, 15 total blocks), Iggy Bielobradek (26 kills, 21 digs), Landon Harazin (114 assists, 37 digs) and Thomas Dixon (71 serve receives) and juniors Sam Shelven (21 kills, 10 blocks), Liam Reilley (37 digs, 6 aces, 81 serve receives) and Angel Herrera (10 blocks).

Track and field

Lyons Township junior Nick Strayer won the Class 3A boys 1,600-meter run (4:20.05) at the Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor Championship at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington on March 25. 

Strayer, whose personal best won by .82 seconds, posted the state’s eighth-fastest time this indoor season. 

Nazareth Academy senior Colette Kinsella was third in the Class 2A girls 1,600 with a personal-best 5:05.02 that ranks 19th.
