
Senior Makenna Kotor had four hits, including a sixth-inning home run, as the Lyons Township High School softball team won 10-2 at Oak Lawn on April 29.
Kotor finished with five runs batted in for the Lions (4-10, 2-3 in West Suburban Conference Silver).
Arianna Amella (2 for 4) and leadoff hitter Kaitlyn Filkins (2 for 5, double, 3 runs) also had multiple hits. Peyton O’Flaherty had two RBIs and scored twice and Lily Prendergast doubled.
Lucy Lee (5 strikeouts in 4 innings) and Lexi Jeffrey (4 strikeouts in 3 innings) handled the pitching duties.
The Lions lost to York 15-3 on April 28, Oak Park and River Forest 12-2 on April 26 and beat Proviso West 15-0 on April 24.
Daisy Laslie pitched a four-hitter against Proviso West with two strikeouts and a walk. Ava Jacklin (2 for 2, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs), Laslie (double, 3 RBIs, 2 runs) and Filkins and Grace Sneed (double each) led a nine-hit attack.
O’Flaherty (2 for 3), Jacklin and Ida Castro doubled against OPRF.
O’Flaherty is hitting .485 with two homers and 18 RBIs. Jacklin is hitting .342 with 12 RBIs.
LTHS baseball
The Lions have now won eight straight after another perfect week that included four straight shutouts.
LTHS (16-3, 9-2 in WSC Silver) beat Hinsdale Central 6-0 on April 26, Proviso West 10-0 on April 25 and April 27, Lockport 10-3 on April 28 and Proviso East 10-0 on April 29.
Troy Stukenberg (.500, 3 HR, 25 RBIs), leadoff hitter Frederick Ragsdale III (.491, 17 RBIs, 31 runs), Jack Falls (.373, 3 HRs, 26 RBIs) and Sam Viniard (.360, 3 HRs, 20 RBIs) have the Lions’ top batting averages.

Pitchers Tucker King (6 strikeouts in 5.2 innings) and Brady Chambers combined on a five-hitter against Hinsdale Central. Falls was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs.
Michael Mango, who doubled with two RBIs, Ragsdale (2 RBIs), Stukenberg, Viniard, James Georgelos and Ryan Jackson had two hits each against Lockport. Nate Anderson (4 strikeouts in 5.1 innings) and Tristan Clark pitched.
Patrick Engels and Georgelos were 2 for 3 with a double, Ragsdale tripled and Henry Witmer doubled Saturday. Conor Mulcrone (9 strikeouts in 4.2 innings) and Luke Allegretti pitched in the six-inning victory.
Mulcrone also fanned seven in four innings in the April 25 victory over Proviso West. Georgelos had two doubles and Ragsdale and Stukenberg doubled.
LTHS girls water polo
The Lions (22-4) made it eight straight victories on April 27 by defeating Waubonsie Valley 11-2.
LTHS also beat defending state champion Naperville North 12-9 and Evanston 10-2 last week.
Estelle Wright (5 goals, 2 assists), Maya Mladjan (3 goals, 2 assists), Emilia Mladjan (2 goals, 2 assists) and Ava Wright (2 goals) accounted for the goals against Naperville North. Emilia Mladjan had six goals against Waubonsie and Maya Mladjan had four goals against Evanston.
LTHS boys water polo
The Lions (15-6) earned their fifth straight victory and third straight by one goal by edging Naperville North 11-10 on April 22.
Sean Gripp (6 goals, 2 assists), Brendan Whelton (4 goals) and goalie Charlie Vlk (3 assists, 13 saves) led the attack.
LTHS also beat York 11-10 on April 22 and Oak Park and River Forest 11-10 on April 18.
Whelton (6 goals, 2 assists), Gripp (goal, 6 assists), Louis Grib (3 goals, assist) and Luke Jackson (2 goals, 2 assists) and Sami Rabah (2 assists) fueled the effort against York. The Lions lost their two previous meetings with the Dukes 14-4 and 11-7.
LTHS girls soccer
LTHS senior Izzy Wirtz and sophomore Caroline Mortonson were named to the second team of the Naperville Invitational’s all-tournament team.
The Lions (14-1-1) rallied for a 2-1 victory over Benet on April 27 and tied Neuqua Valley 1-1 on April 28 to finish with a 2-1-1 invite record.
Carolina Capizzi and Izzy Lebar scored the goals against Benet, both assisted by Mortonson. Josie Pochocki scored against Neuqua.
LTHS boys track and field
Senior Will DiSessa had three top-three finishes and the Lions finished fourth (85 points) at the Prospect Invite on April 28.
DiSessa won the 100 (11.10), was second in the 200 (22.77) and was third in triple jump (13.60m/44-7 1/2).
Vincent Barcelona was second in the 110 high hurdles (15.39) and fourth in the 300 intermediate hurdles (41.19).
Michael Ferrell (1:58.42) and Matt McGovern (1:59.39) finished 2-3 in the 800. Jack Rempfer was third in the 400 (50.91) and Trevor DeVries (6.44/21-1 1/2 in long jump), Nick Strayer (3,200 in 9:34.16) and the 4×400 relay (Barcelona, Rempfer, Ferrell, McGovern in 3:26.85) were fourth.
LTHS girls track and field
The Lions compete at the West Suburban Conference Silver Meet on May 5 at York.
LTHS was seventh (49 points) at the Wheaton Warrenville South Invite on April 28.
Catherine Sommerfeld was second in the 3,200 (10:41.35), posting the No. 8 outdoor season-best in the state this season.
The 1,600 relay (Becky Phillips, Madison Findley, Claire McVady, Kristina Findley in 4:08.63) also was second and the 3,200 relay (Charlotte Lange, Kristina Findley, Anna Byslma, Madison Findley in 9:40.34) was fourth.
Phillips was fourth in the 400 (59.45) and Julianne Melby (11:47.38) and Lauren Bohringer (11:47.54) were sixth and seventh in the 3,200. Lange (5:11.41 in 1,600), Emma Kwak (200 in 27.06) and Leigh Ferrell (9-9 in pole vault) were seventh.
LTHS badminton
The Lions finished fourth at the West Suburban Silver Meet on April 28 at Hinsdale Central and tied for third in the final overall standings with Downers Grove North.
Nine entries finished third – Julia Senffner (No. 1), Mia Graziano (No. 2), Elle Ownby (No. 3), Aggie Driscoll (No. 4), Alyssa Thakadiyil (No. 7), Adriana Dvorak (No. 8) and Helen Lloyd (No. 9) in singles and Senffner and Thakadiyil (No. 3) and Simone Brown and Lloyd (No. 4) in doubles.
The Lions play host to their IHSA sectional on May 4. The sectional’s top four singles and doubles finishers advance to state.

The Lions (20-3, 3-1 in West Suburban Silver) reached the 20-victory mark for the second year in a row with two-set victories over Addison Trail, Hinsdale South and Proviso West last week.
