A Brookfield resident has been charged with battery in connection with a physical altercation outside Lyons Township High School’s North Campus on May 1 that injured two students, one of them “severely,” according to an update on the school’s website posted late on the afternoon of May 5.
There was no further information on the injured student’s condition, only that the student, who was taken to the hospital via ambulance “continues to receive medical treatment.”
Police and school officials still have not released any details about the altercation other than to say it involved “several juveniles and an adult, which resulted in the injury of two juveniles.” It took place around 4:10 p.m. outside Exit 7 of the school, 100 S. Brainard Ave. in LaGrange.
The adult who was charged with battery was the Brookfield resident, identified by LaGrange police as James Hernandez Jr. The updated statement says the police investigation remains open.
According to a portion of the update attributed to LaGrange police, “This was an isolated incident and does not pose a threat to the community. The LaGrange Police Department has worked closely with school administrators throughout its investigation and will continue to pursue leads as the case develops.”
