
Michael David Mayer, 76, of Interlochen, Michigan, died May 30, 2023.
He was born on May 24, 1947, in Berwyn, the son of Laddie and Doris Mayer. He formerly resided in both North Riverside and Wheaton before moving to northern Michigan in October of 1978.
Michael and his wife, Linda, were married in Maywood on April 7, 1973. He worked for Hyster Lift Trucks and then at Homestead Resort for 31 years. He was a volunteer firefighter in Wheaton and in Glen Arbor, Michigan. He also served as the assistant fire chief for Almira Township.
Mr. Mayer served two years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, where he drove large equipment trucks. He enjoyed riding side by sides and on golf carts as well as on pontoons and snowmobiles. Michael also enjoyed fishing, rock hunting and other outdoor activities. He loved his animals very much.
He is survived by his wife who loved him for over 50 years, Linda; his sons, Kevin (Julie) and Bryan (Paulette); his grandchildren, Nicole and Justin; his sister, Joni (Tony); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Laddie and Doris (Kniewel) Mayer.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on June 17 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Traverse City, Michigan. The family will greet friends starting at 10 a.m. There will be a luncheon immediately following the Mass. Interment will take place at 2 p.m. on June 17 at Inland Township Cemetery in Interlochen.
