
The Riverside Brookfield High School girls volleyball team celebrated Senior Night Oct. 3 with a clincher.
The Bulldogs mathematically secured the Metro Suburban Conference title by beating Ridgewood 25-13, 25-11.
The Bulldogs (16-10, 5-0 in MSC), already ahead of last year’s total of 13 victories, lead second-place Elmwood Park by two games with its conference finale Wednesday at Westmont.
Leading the victory were Sofia Owens (4 kills), Claire Cameron (10 assists) Mackenzie Sloger (3 kills, 3 aces), Kelley Tyler (6 digs, 3 aces) and Annabel Krueger (3 kills).
The Bulldogs have just four seniors – Tyler, Krueger, Addie Blomgren and Emily Organ, who rejoined the program this season.
The Bulldogs’ five-game winning streak ended Oct. 4 with a 25-17, 25-21 loss to highly-rated Willowbrook (26-1). RBHS beat Leyden 25-13, 25-10 Thursday behind Owens (6 kills), Lucy Boyle (5 kills), Cameron (11 assists, 3 aces), Krueger (9 assists, 3 aces) and Sloger (3 aces).
RBHS boys soccer
The Bulldogs (7-9-1, 2-3 in MSC) lost at MSC leader Ridgewood 2-1 Thursday and won 3-2 at Wheaton Academy Friday.
RBHS overcame a 2-1 halftime deficit with goals by Kenzo DeLemos and Max Swicionis with assists by Xavier Salamanca and David Carrillo. Salamanca scored in the first half with Diego Villegas assisting.
RBHS had beaten Ridgewood (10-8-1, 5-1) in their first meeting 2-1 Sept. 20. Tomas Kunickas scored the first goal Thursday with Villegas assisting.
RBHS girls swimming and diving
Junior Hailey Vlcek won the 200-yard (1:57.36) and 100 freestyle (55.21) at the Andrew Invitational Saturday. The Bulldogs were third (201 points).
Maria Ellis won the 200 individual medley (2:17.04) and was second in the 500 free (5:34.89).
Also second were diver Reese Phelan (276.45 points) and Vlcek, Ellis, Maggie McCoy and Emily Baartman in the 200 free relay (1:48.66) and 400 free relay (3:50.67).
In the Bulldogs’ home dual with Oak Park and River Forest Oct. 3, event champions were Ellis in the 200 IM (2:15.65) and 100 butterfly (1:02.38), McCoy (100 free in 57.69), Vlcek (50 free in 24.83) and Phelan (176.00 points in diving) and Ellis, McCoy and Vlcek in the 200 free relay with Kate Ryan (1:45.81) and 400 free relay with McCoy (3:47.85).
RBHS cross country
The RBHS boys and girls teams will compete at the MSC Meet Saturday at Westmont High School.
Cooper Marrs (15:22.9), Brady Norman (15:46.1) and Brennan Lester (15:47.7) finished 1-2-3 as the RBHS boys dominated Saturday’s Elmwood Park Invite (20 points).
Diego Lopez-Molina (5th, 16:02.6) and Evan McMullen (9th, 16:42.0) also were top 10. Tommy Bogden (17:30.4) and Aiden O’Brien (17:32.7) were 27th and 28th.
RBHS girls tennis
The Bulldogs compete at the Class 2A Hinsdale Central Sectional beginning Friday.
The MSC Meet was scheduled to be completed Tuesday after being rained out Friday.
