Police in Riverside and North Riverside will be adding extra traffic enforcement patrols in the coming couple of weeks as they participate in the Thanksgiving season Drive Sober of Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.
The programs are funded by federal grants administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Special traffic enforcement patrols will be on the streets of Riverside and North Riverside from Nov. 20 through the early morning hours of Nov. 30.
More than 30 percent of fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois involved an alcohol-impaired driver, according to the Illinois State Police. The percentage of crashes involving those under the influence of drugs is also on the rise.
