Police in Riverside and North Riverside will be beefing up traffic enforcement patrols in the next couple of weeks as part of a federally grant-funded safety campaigns administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation.

IDOT’s Click It or Ticket and Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over initiatives will fund local police patrols specifically targeting impaired drivers and those who aren’t buckled up beginning Nov. 22 and running through the Thanksgiving holiday, ending in the early morning hours of Dec. 2.

According to IDOT, there were 15 fatal crashed during the Thanksgiving weekend in 2018, five of them involving at least one person who had been drinking alcohol.
