Lux Cantorum in Riverside
Sts. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, 250 Woodside Road in Riverside, hosts a choral concert by Lux Cantorum, Chicago's premier sacred choral music ensemble, on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m.
The program, "Joy," lets you leave the overwhelming pressure of the upcoming holidays behind with music that focuses on the spiritual virtues of love, hope, and peace.

Riverside Children's Theater Guild Presents "Saving Christmas"
The Riverside Children's Theater Guild proudly presents their original holiday musical comedy "Saving Christmas" this Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8 at 3:00 p.m. at the Riverside Township Hall Auditorium, 27 Riverside Rd. General admission is $5.00. See what happens when Santa's sleigh crashes in the Enchanted Forest and all the fairytale creatures must rally together to save Christmas and defeat the evil Krampus. All the good little girls and boys (and grownups to) won't want to miss this family-friendly, one-hour show, jam packed with Christmas magic.

North Riverside Parks and Rec will hold a Breakfast with Santa event on Sunday, Dec. 15 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Village Commons, 2401 Desplaines Ave.
Eat a pancake breakfast, play games, make a craft and visit with Santa and Buddy the Elf. Bring the family and your camera.

LTHS Santa Write Night
Lyons Township High School's Discovery Center staff invite kids in kindergarten through third grade to the South Campus, 4900 S. Willow Springs Road, Western Springs, for its annual Write Night, where you can type letters to Santa on Discovery Center computers and receive an immediate response from the North Pole.
Write Night is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 10. Participants and their families may drop in anytime between 4 and 6:30 p.m. There is no admission charge, but a donation of one non-perishable food item is requested. All food will be donated to a local food pantry.
The event includes a story room, coloring room, face-painting room, cupcake decorating, sing-alongs and more.

New solo show at RAC
Riverside Arts Center, 32 E. Quincy St., presents a solo show featuring the work artist Jennifer Oldis-Kryczka as part of its RAC Spotlight series involving artists who are part of the RAC community.
Oldis-Kryczka's portraits are made slowly through thin layers of oil deposited over time, allowing her to explore color relationships, forms and reveal the inner essence of her subjects.
The show runs Dec. 6 through Jan. 4, with an opening reception on Sunday Dec. 8 from 3 to 6 p.m.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. Free and open to the public.
Riverside Lions collecting X-mas lights
The Riverside Township Lions Club is collecting unwanted Christmas lights for recycling.
Working and non-working lights that are for indoor or outdoor use can be dropped off at the Riverside Public Library, 1 Burling Road, or the North Riverside Public Library, 2401 Desplaines Ave., during normal business hours through Jan. 15, 2020.
Lights will be processed, sorted by component and recycled back into useful products. Proceeds benefit Lions Clubs International.
ν The advanced acting classes at Nazareth Academy, 1209 W. Ogden Ave. in LaGrange Park, present "Frozen Jr.," a children's musical based on the popular movie on Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Romano Family Theater. Tickets are $5 at the door beginning a half hour before the show.

ν Holiday Magic, the annual festival of lights at Brookfield Zoo, 3300 Golf Road in Brookfield, returns Dec. 7-8. ν Riverside Parks and Rec invites children to drop off letters to Santa Claus at a special mailbox that will be placed on the east side of the historic water tower, 10 Pine Ave. Letters received through Dec. 20 will get a response, but the mailbox stays open until Christmas.
ν Compassion Factory Art Gallery and Studio, 9210 Broadway Ave. in Brookfield, presents "Symmetry," an exhibit of work featuring artists Bala Thiagarajan and Rita Sharha through Dec. 21.
