Allison Norman (center) with her children, Alyssa and Brady

Friends of Allison Norman, diagnosed last September with Stage 2 triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), have started an online fundraiser to help the Norman family pay for the expensive medical treatments necessary to battle the disease.

“Asking for help can be hard, and with upfront costs, out-of-pocket expenses, missed work days and treatment bills piling up, Allison and her family are finding themselves in an overwhelming spot,” wrote fundraiser organizers Stephanie Coolman and Sarah Fields in their Jan. 14 message on the fundraiser’s GoFundMe page.

Norman, who lives in Brookfield with her husband, Matt, and children, Brady and Alyssa, as of mid-January had undergone 12 rounds of chemotherapy at the University of Chicago. She was scheduled to undergo a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction on Feb. 5.

If tests show additional cancer in the removed tissue, Norman will undergo a second round of chemotherapy. Future surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes is expected.

The organizers set a fundraising goal of $25,000 and as of Feb. 5 had raised about $8,600.
