Flood advisory issued for Des Plaines River at Riverside

Expected to crest close to moderate flood stage

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the Des Plaines River between Roosevelt Road in Forest Park on the north and Hodgkins on the south. The river is expected to crest in Riverside at nearly 7.3 feet by Friday morning.

Flood stage for the Des Plaines River at Riverside is 7 feet, with moderate flooding occurring at 7.5 feet. Areas expected to be inundated at moderate flood stage include low lying areas in forest preserves, Swan Pond Park and Indian Gardens.

As of 2:45 p.m., the Des Plaines River at Riverside was at 5.48 feet. Flood conditions are expected to last from Thursday afternoon through late Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service advisory.
