On Saturday, May 5, Brookfield postal carriers will kick off the United States Postal Service's "Stamp Out Hunger" program and will be donating a portion of the food they collect to the Share Food Share Love Food Pantry in Brookfield.

Last year, food pantry officials said they were overwhelmed with the quantity of food they received during the event and were able to stock their shelves for several weeks.

The mail carriers will be putting fliers and, in some cases, empty bags in mailboxes and will then pick up the donations on their mail routes on May 12. After picking up the food from the homes, they will deliver it directly to food pantries.

Share Food Share Love Food Pantry, located inside Faith Lutheran Chur ch at 3801 Madison Ave., expects the donations to begin coming shortly after noon on May 12 and to continue for the rest of the afternoon.

The food pantry is looking for volunteers to help from 1 to 6 p.m. on May 12. It's a great way for students to complete service hours, but any help is appreciated. At 6 p.m., volunteers will be treated to a pizza dinner.
