Hitzeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services has started a flag retirement program to honor veterans.

The funeral home is collecting worn, tattered or torn American flags that are no longer suitable for display. If a family wishes, the funeral home will provide one of the retired flags donated to be cremated alongside their veteran. The flag will drape over the veteran's cremation receptacle prior to cremation and will stay with them during the cremation process.

Upon receipt of the veteran's cremated remains, the family will receive a certificate stating the last deed of service for that flag, which had draped their veteran during the cremation process.

You may bring your flag to Hitzeman Funeral Home, 9445 31st St. in Brookfield.
