Girl Scouts from Troop 51401 in Riverside were honored in May for attaining their Silver Awards for projects benefitting the community.

Jorey Reyes, Hannah O'Flaherty, Scarlett Hall and Josie Randall used epoxy paint and stencils to paint the blacktops at District 96 schools so kids can play games like hopscotch and four-square during recess.

Kate Briolat, Bryce Pacourek and Grace Pankros collected used sports equipment and held a one-day equipment swap to reduce waste and save money for local families.

Kendell Richards, Sophie Ritzler and Anasofia Zaper refurbished and added more plantings to a local butterfly garden to attract pollinators to the village. The girls also plan on maintaining the garden in the future.

Anna Breit raised money for an orphanage in Guatemala by selling fair-trade Guatemalan coffee from a seller whose family lives in the Central American country.

Finally, Veronica Hunt collected and created game and craft kits for children of all ages being treated at Lurie Children's Hospital.
