Farmers markets in full swing
Farmers Markets in both Brookfield and Riverside are in peak summer form, with plenty of locally sourced fresh produce, ready-to-eat items, meat, fish, eggs, honey, baked goods, artisan products and more.
The Brookfield Farmers Market continues its season on Saturday, July 6 and will run every Saturday through Oct. 12 in the parking lot of the Brookfield Village Hall, 8820 Brookfield Ave., from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visit www.brookfieldfarmers.org for special events, vendor info and music lineups.
Meanwhile, the Riverside Farmers Market continues its season on Wednesday, July 10 and every Wednesday through Oct. 9 from 2:30 to 7 p.m. in Centennial Park at the corner of Longcommon Road and Forest Avenue. Note, there is no market on July 3 due to the Concert in the Park.

Summer Nights concerts return
Brookfield Zoo, 3300 Golf Road in Brookfield, continues its weekend Summer Nights concert series on Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6 with a healthy dose of pop rock.
On July 5, enjoy the sounds of Infinity. Formed in 1985 as a Journey cover band, Infiniti has grown to become one of the top-drawing cover bands in the Midwest. And on July 6, settle in for a night with 7th Heaven, whose songs have hit the top of Billboard's Midwest Chart.
Each evening kicks off at 5 p.m. on the East Mall with games and crafts for kids, roaming entertainers and visits from the zoo's animal ambassadors. Concerts start at 7 p.m. Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets.

Property tax appeal seminar
Cook County Board of review Commissioner Dan Patlak will hold a property tax assessment appeal seminar on Wednesday, July 10 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the Riverside Township Hall, 27 Riverside Road in Riverside, for taxpayers seeking to appeal their 2019 property tax assessments.
Riverside Township is open for appeal until July 30.
The hour-long session will educate taxpayers on how to file a successful tax appeal, provide information on property tax exemptions and address why property taxes may increase even if you receive a reduction in your assessment.
Taxpayers will also have an opportunity to work with staff from the Board of review to address their specific questions and concerns. The event is free to attend and there is no fee to appeal your assessment.
Grief support
potluck
The grief support group at Hitzeman Funeral Home, 9445 31st St. in Brookfield, will lighten the mood on July 9 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with a potluck.
Share a loved one's favorite dish and enjoy food and fellowship of others. The funeral home will supply plates, napkins, utensils and beverages. RSVP by July 5 to info@hitzemanfuneral.com or at 708-485-2000.

νRiverside Arts Center, 32 E. Quincy St., presents its annual RAC Members' and Kids' Show through July 27. There's also "stay out come in stay in come out," featuring the work of Jordan Martins in the outdoor sculpture gallery thru Aug. 3. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. Free and open to the public.
νNorth Riverside Public Library, 2400 Desplaines Ave., hosts a Senior Drop-in on July 5 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Meeting Room. Play cards and socialize every Friday.
νFor kids, there's Cada Nino un Lector/Every Child a Reader (ages 6+) on July 10 at 4 p.m. Learn to read Spanish or practice with a group. For grades 5 thru 12 there's Project Next Generation on July 6 from 3:30 -5:30 p.m. and on July 9 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Silhouette yourself and create your own stickers and cards.
νAging Care Connections hosts a free Memory Café program through September on the second Friday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Young at Heart Adult Day Services Center, 6504 Joliet Road in Countryside and the third Tuesday of each month at Salerno's Pizzeria & Sports Bar, 9301 W. 63rd St. in Hodgkins. νThe Brookfield Elks Lodge, 9022 31st St., hosts bingo every Monday night. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games start at 7 p.m. minimum cash payout of $2,275 a night, plus pull tabs, lightning, tic-tac and raffles.
