A Riverside-Brookfield High School junior has tested positive for COVID-19, the school announced today in an email sent to parents.

"A student in the junior class has tested positive for COVID-19," RBHS Principal Hector Freytas wrote in an email he sent to parents on the afternoon of Aug. 25. "This student was a participant during the afternoon session of the Junior Class Orientation on Aug. 19. Following the positive notification which was received today, Aug. 25, the administration completed a thorough contact tracing investigation. All students and staff who have been deemed a close contact (within six feet or less for more than 15 minutes) received individual notifications and were asked to quarantine for 14 days."

RBHS allowed students in the building last week for half-day orientation sessions before remote learning started this week. Juniors were in the building on Aug. 19, with half the junior class coming to school in the morning and the other half of the junior class coming to school in the afternoon.

Another RBHS student, a member of the boys cross-country team, had reported last week some symptoms of COVID-19, which are similar to symptoms of many other ailments, such as the flu. The school confirmed that student subsequently tested negative twice for COVID-19.
