Moving at a faster pace than they originally intended, the Riverside Elementary School District 96 Board of Education could hire a search firm to conduct their superintendent search on Tuesday.

The board has called a special meeting for Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m. to consider hiring a search firm. The board already had a regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole meeting that night.

On Aug. 18 the board heard from four contenders to do the search for a new superintendent. After that meeting, school board President Jeff Miller said the board would make a decision on whom to hire at its next regular meeting on Sept. 15. However, after getting feedback from the firms Miller said that the board will make its decision two weeks earlier if it can reach a consensus at Tuesday's special meeting.

"They are all kind of saying that we want to get the ball rolling as soon as possible, and so there's really not a lot of reason to wait until the middle of September to have our discussion," Miller said. "So we're going to have a discussion on Tuesday, and if we can come to some agreement then we will have the vote."

The contenders for the search job are the Illinois Association of School Boards, the search firm School Exec Connect, the search firm Ray and Associates, and the duo of former District 96 Superintendent David Bonnette and former Lyons Township High School District 204 Superintendent Dennis Kelly.
