On Sept. 24, Brookfield Zoo unveiled a life-size bronze statue of Cookie, a Major Mitchell cockatoo, who at the time of his death in August 2016 was the last remaining animal from the original zoo collection dating back to 1934. In September 2014, the Guinness Book of World Records certified that Cookie was the oldest living parrot at that time. The statue, by Dino Crisanti, sits atop a bench outside the zoo's Reptiles and Birds house, where Cookie lived.
