A teacher in Riverside Elementary School District 96 who has been teaching in the district's Remote Academy has tested positive for COVID-19.

District 96 Superintendent Martha Ryan-Toye informed parents and guardians of the news in an email on Sept. 28 without specifically saying that the staff member who tested positive was a teacher.

"The staff member works at Blythe Park School," Ryan-Toye said in the email to parents and guardians. "The contact with students and other staff members was minimal to none."

In an email to staff Ryan-Toye said they do not believe the staff member, who is now under quarantine, contracted the virus in the school setting.

Ryan-Toye confirmed to the Landmark that the staffer was a teacher who had been conducting classes from her Blythe Park classroom for students attending remotely.

This is the fourth person, and first staff member, in District 96 who has tested positive for COVID-19 since the school year began on Sept. 2. The first three cases were all elementary school students.
