One of the great disappointments of the past decade and a half in Brookfield was the decision made in the early 2000s to essentially starve the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Out of the blue last week, a number of trustees sitting on the Riverside Village Board – including three who will be walking away from the job in April – expressed support for exploring a referendum that would limit the terms of future elected officials.

The Brookfield Village Board again has put off making a decision on potentially changing just what kinds of "assembly" will be allowed in the Eight Corners business district.

We chronicled its rapid descent into oblivion, after decades of careful, thrifty management, by gambling the business' future on making risky loans to shady characters.
