A hazardous materials incident at the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad crossing at Maple Avenue in Brookfield snarled train and vehicle traffic for more than five hours on Monday.

About 70 veterans, many of whom had suffered wounds in combat during their years in the service, spent the morning of June 25 enjoying each other's company and the cheers of well-wishers as they cycled through the western suburbs during the first leg of the Wounded Warriors Project's Soldier Ride.

Neil Pellicci has spent nearly half of his life at Komarek School. Next week his time at the school will come to an end when the superintendent of Komarek School District 94 retires after a 38-year career as a teacher, principal, and superintendent — the last 28 years at Komarek. 

Drive by the Brookfield VFW post on Ogden Avenue and you might notice it has a new sign. That in itself wouldn't be notable, but for the fact that the sign bears a new name.
