McCloskey, Hutchens, and McCloskey lead RB

It was an afternoon Maggie McCloskey and Meghan Hutchens will remember for a long time. McCloskey and Hutchens each scored 22 points apiece to lead the Riverside-Brookfield girls' basketball team to a 64-56 victory over Mother McAuley in the Sweet 16 tournament on Saturday.

Another McCloskey controlled the boards. Katelyn, cousin of Maggie, hauled down 13 rebounds, six on offensive. Erin Pfieffer added 10 points, to go along with six rebounds and four steals.

The win pushed the Bulldogs' overall record to 16-2 on the season.

RB also edged Batavia 59-54 in non-conference action on Thursday. 

The Bulldogs will host Fenton on Friday (6 p.m.) for RB's "Pack the Place Night."

Bulldogs bounced
The Riverside-Brookfield boys' basketball team fell to Marian Catholic 66-57 on Saturday at the Bremen Pow Wow Invitational.

Alex Devaris led the Bulldogs with 15 points, and Mike Halusek chipped in 11.

The Bulldogs are now 7-5 overall, and a perfect 3-0 in the Suburban Prairie Conference (East) Conference. They'll host Fenton on Friday, "Pack the Place Night," at 7 p.m.

The Lyons Township boys' basketball team continued its perfect West Suburban (Silver) Conference mark by pummeling Glenbard West 59-39 on Friday.

The Lions (14-1, 5-0) used a potent offensive attack to gain a quick 18-2 lead. The output didn't stop as the game went on.

Todd Nyberg led the Lions with 17 points. Adam Powers added 13 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Michael Scavuzzo churned out 12 points and seven rebounds for Lyons.

LT makes splash
The Lions outswam the field at the St. Charles Invitational on Saturday, splashing away to first place with 487 points. The closest competitor to Lyons Township was St. Charles East, who rounded out second place with 447 points.

Kevin Tulley and Paul Wierdak led the Lions. Tulley took first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.00, while Wierdak took first in the 50-yard freestyle in :22.79. Both swimmers were part of the Lions' first place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Drew Stephen, Ross Ford, Tulley and Wierdak timed out at 7:42.33.
