Riverside Elementary School District 96 will add two administrators to the staff in the 2006-07 school year after the Board of Education on Jan. 17 voted unanimously to create positions for a director of special education and director of technology.

Currently, the district’s special education services are coordinated by Ames School Principal Colleen Lieggi, while the district has no one specifically directing technology services. District 96 has two technology teachers who perform a variety of duties, from teaching students to repairing computers.

But both areas have become so complex, school officials say, that the district needs an administrator for each area in order to provide better and up-to-date services for students and staff.

District 96 Superintendent Jonathan Lamberson said he’d like to have both positions filled by July 1.

“Being the special education coordinator for the last five years, when you deal with a case, it just eats up so much time,” Lieggi
