Mary Ann Hand (nee Blazejak), 83, died peacefully in her sleep at Sunrise Senior Living of Willowbrook on Dec. 29, 2018.
Born in 1935, the Chicago area native graduated of Mercy High School and was a parishioner of St. Barbara's Church in Brookfield for 47 years. Ms. Hand was active in the church and a very strong supporter.
She was an avid reader who enjoyed the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake. Once her children were of school age, Ms. Hand held several positions on the night shift at LaGrange Memorial Hospital. She treasured the professional friendships created there and continued to meet at routine luncheons long after her tenure ended.
Ms. Hand was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Harry, and beloved sister, Elizabeth (George) Maish.
Her thoughtful guidance, friendship and love will be deeply missed by those who survive her, including her brothers, John, William (Marcia); her sister, Geraldine (Leonard) Vavra; her sister-in-law, Anne; her children, Kathleen, Kevin (Linda), Janet, Amy Wilhelm and Edmund (Diane); her grandchildren, Nicholas, Eileen (Justin) Prybutok, Daniel, Megan, Michael and Caitlin and Christopher Wilhelm and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 4 at St. Barbara Church, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.
Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home, North Riverside, handled arrangements.
