Martha Raye Harris Rogers, 76, of Cheraw, South Carolina, and formerly of Brookfield, died Oct. 24, 2014.

Ms. Rogers was born in Cheraw, the daughter of John Karamales Harris and Edith Evelyn Brock Harris Wright. Her family owned and operated the Royal Restaurant in Cheraw for many years. While a student at Cheraw High School, she was a member of the Squaws basketball team.

She was a retired school nurse and active at her churches both in South Carolina and in Brookfield. She was a member of Cheraw First Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Ms. Rogers had been active in the adult choir and director of the WMU before her illness.

When she lived in Brookfield, she served as youth development leader, Sunday School teacher, deaconess and director of ladies programs at the Brookfield Baptist Church.

Ms. Rogers was a member of the Lakeshore Nursing Association and the SN Association. She had volunteered at the local food pantry and the Cook County children’s immunization clinic.

She is survived by her husband, George Rogers of Cheraw; her son, Mark Rogers, of Brookfield; her daughter, Kathy (Charles) January of Great Lakes; her sister, Joan Wright Chorba of Cheraw; her grandchildren, Stephanie and Suzanne Rogers; and several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Rogers was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Robert David Rogers.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. at Cheraw First Baptist Church, followed by interment at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.
