The Riverside-Brookfield girls basketball team tallied 95 points in its third consecutive Suburban Prairie (East) Conference victory Saturday.
The Bulldogs (8-0, 3-0) downed Ridgewood 95-51 with the sharp shooting of Maggie McCloskey, Katelyn McCloskey, Erin Pfeiffer, and Stephanie Magdic.
Maggie McCloskey finished with 25 points?"five three-pointers?"and 13 assists. Katelyn McCloskey garnered 19 points and eight rebounds, while Pfeiffer chipped in 12 points. Magdic scored 11 points.
Backed by Maggie's 13 points in the first period, the Bulldogs took a 25-6 lead after one and never looked back. RB led by 33 at the half and 41 after three periods.
Ridgewood's Monika Krozel scored 36 of the Rebels' 51 points.
RB hosts Elmwood Park on Friday (7 p.m.) and travels to the Bremen tournament to take on Marist on Saturday (11 a.m.).
Lions roar to first place, pin three
The Lyons Township wrestling team grappled its way to first place at the Buffalo Grove tournament on Saturday.
The Lions scored 227.5 points to win the tourney that featured Carmel, St. Patrick and five other teams.
LT had three wrestlers win with pins in the finals. Chris Cavallo won the 103-pound weight class by pinning Buffalo Grove's Jeff Streu in 1:43. At 130 pounds, Mike Peysakhovich pinned Alberto Padilla of Curie in 1:20. Phil Lukanich pinned Carlos Gonzales of Curie in 3:01.
Other victories included Vince Castillo in the 140-pound weight class. Castillo won by 8-5 decision over Elias Larson of Brother Rice.
Casey McMurray (160-pounds) outwrestled Glenbrook South's Jesse Causey 10-4. Steve Cincotti (171) won 4-3 over Brother Rice's Kevin Kelley, while Les Bates (189) defeated Marty LaBelle of St. Patrick 5-2.
The Lions defeated West Suburban (Silver) Conference foe Hinsdale Central 51-11 on Friday.
LT takes drubbing by Thornwood
The Lyons Township boys basketball team's trip to South Holland on Saturday wasn't exactly a pleasant affair.
Fifteenth-ranked Thornwood took a quick 10-0 lead on its way to a 60-28 victory.
LT was unable to stop Thornwood's perimeter shooters. The Thunderbirds (4-0) made 10 three-pointers in the game, while Lyons connected on only 11-of-37 field goals.
LT (4-3) will try and regroup against West Suburban (Silver) Conference foe Proviso West this Friday (at home, 7:30 p.m.).
