Brookfield police say at least seven shot were fired at a house in the 3400 block of Grand Boulevard at about 10:35 p.m. on Dec. 17, with two rounds hitting the home next door to one police said was being targeted.

No one was injured, but the incident drew a large police presence, including Cook County evidence technicians and a police K-9 unit. Brookfield Deputy Police Chief Edward Petrak says investigators believe one home in particular was targeted.

"We believe this was not random," said Petrak in an email. "We're looking at video and following up on leads."

According to the police report, a tan sedan was seen fleeing the area from the U-shaped alley, which connects Madison Avenue and Washington Avenue, west of the 3400 block of Grand Boulevard.

One witness told police she heard six to seven shots. Police later reported recovering seven spent shell casings from the alley near the garage behind a garage in the 9200 block of Washington Avenue.

The shooter appears to have fired at the target house from roughly a 45-degree angle. Police reported that two of the bullets struck the south wall of the home immediately north of the shooter's actual target.

The weapon used in the shooting was reported to be a .380 ACP handgun, similar to a 9 mm weapon.

Jon, it was reported. I know because I live nearby and police knocked on my door at 5am. Just because people mention it online doesn't mean it wasn't reported. No need to be rude for no reason and just assume she didn't call the police.

you heard a single gunshot at 430am and did you report it? or you just sat around and expected someone else to do it?

I heard in single gun shot at 4:24 am that sounded like it came from the alley between 3500 Vernon and prairie

The targeted house has had nothing but problems for years. Loud parties, people coming and going at all times, poor upkeep of the property, trash all over, renters coming and going, loud motorcycles. A few years ago, a couple of the renters were in a loud fight in front of the house while my children were playing in our yard across the street. The man hauled off and punched the woman right in the face while in full view of my kids. We're moving from the area soon and I certainly will not miss these "neighbors!"
