The Riverside Brookfield girls basketball team wasted no time dismantling Metro Suburban Conference opponent Ridgewood on Friday night. The Bulldogs (5-1, 2-0) leapt to a 17-4 lead in the first quarter en route a 75-32 victory.

Thanks to Katelyn McCloskey’s 14 first half points, RB had the game well within reach by halftime, leading 37-13.

McCloskey finished with 17 points, including four three-pointers. The senior also hauled down seven rebounds. Sarah Strait scored 16 points-eight in the first half-and grabbed nine rebounds.

After hosting Guerin tonight (Wednesday, 7 p.m.), the Bulldogs travel to Fenton on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy on Saturday (2:30 p.m.).

RB boys fall hard to LT

Turnovers and poor shooting plagued the RB boys basketball team as the Bulldogs fell 71-42 to rival Lyons Township in non-conference action on Saturday.

RB (1-4) struggled to find its groove, hitting just 13-of-40 shots from the floor and 2-of-15 from three-point range. The Bulldogs also accumulated 14 turnovers.

RB was coming off a 69-67 Metro Suburban Conference victory over Ridgewood. The Bulldogs pulled off their first win on the season when Chris Parrish made a reverse layup with 11 seconds remaining in the game. The go-ahead shot capped a 7-0 RB run.

Jack Baldermann, who scored 10 points in the loss to LT, finished with an impressive double-double of 25 points and 16 rebounds. Parrish added 21 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs travel to Fenton on Friday (7 p.m.) for a Metro Suburban Conference match-up.

Friars able to squeak by Celtics

“Everything that could have gone wrong did, except for the score,” said Fenwick head boys basketball coach John Quinn after the Friars edged Providence 54-51 on Friday night.

After several days off from practice due to last week’s snow storm and a two-hour bus ride to New Lenox, the Friars, with three players battling minor illnesses and junior guard Larry Walker out with a mild concussion, trailed the Celtics 23-13 in the second quarter. John Comfort came off the bench to warm up his team, scoring seven points to bring Fenwick to within one at halftime.

The Friars fell into foul trouble by the fourth but Ryan Harbour’s two three-pointers, a steal and basket from Newman Delany, and the team’s near perfect free-throw shooting (10-of-11) in the final quarter led to Fenwick’s fourth straight victory on the season.

Derek Tartt led the Friars with 14 points, while Xavier Humphrey added 12 points.

Fenwick (4-0) hosts St. Francis de Sales for its home opener on Friday (7:30 p.m.).

Fenwick girls open ESCC with win

The Fenwick girls basketball team opened its East Suburban Catholic Conference schedule on Saturday by clobbering St. Viator 63-42. The Friars (6-0, 1-0) were led by Alison Jackson and Devereaux Peters. Jackson finished with 22 points, six rebounds and two steals. Peters scored 20 points and also hauled down six rebounds.

Fenwick, which won the Niles North Thanksgiving tournament a few weeks ago with a 54-48 victory over Resurrection in overtime, hosts Johnsburg Thursday night (7 p.m.) to kickoff the Sweet 16 tournament.
