Stanley A. Kumiega Sr., 88, of Brookfield, died Feb. 7, 2013.

Born on Feb. 22, 1924, Mr. Kumiega served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he worked as a civil engineer.

Mr. Kumiega was the husband of Helen V. Kumiega (nee Kirby); the father of Kathleen (Mark) Joiner, Stanley A. Kumiega Jr., Susan (Thomas) Malas and Nancy Malas; the grandfather of Brian Joiner, Bradley Joiner, Kyle Kumiega, Andrea Kumiega, Jeremy Malas and Tyler Malas; the brother of Marianne Yasak, Barbara Balitewicz, Peter (Rose) Kumiega, Paul (Nancy) Kumiega, the late Anne Wojcik, Ignatius Kumiega, Emil Kumiega and Frank Kumiega; the son of the late Ignatius Kumiega, Sophie Kumiega, and Mary Kumiega; and the uncle of many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 11 at St. Louise de Marillac Church in LaGrange Park, followed by interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Memorial donations are appreciated to the Alzheimer's Association-Chicagoland, 8430 W. Bryn Mawr, Suite 800, Chicago, Ill. 60631.
