A 29-year-old woman from Chicago was charged with drunk driving and four other violations after her car was stuck on the railroad tracks at a railroad crossing in Riverside on early Sunday morning. The railroad crossing lights were flashing although no train was coming and it was later determined that the car was on the portion of the railroad track that activated the gates and flashing lights. When asked to exit her car by a Riverside police officer the woman promptly fell into the snow. The woman said that she had been at a bar on the North Side of Chicago and was trying to get to her home on the South Side of Chicago. The police officer had to hold the woman up the entire time he was speaking to her. There were tire tracks leading from the parking lot behind 3 Longcommon Road on to a sidewalk and leading to the railroad tracks.
The woman failed a variety of field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest at the Riverside Police Station. Upon being placed under arrest the woman, according to the police report, began screaming at the arresting officer. When told to quiet down the woman said that the Hammond police were always telling her to be quiet. When told she was in Riverside and not Hammond, Indiana the woman continued to insist that she was in Hammond. The woman also prayed and cried when the officer left the room.
In addition to driving under the influence the woman was charged with driving on a sidewalk, improper lane usage, not possessing a driver’s license, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Again, woman returns to apartment storeroom
An 18-year-old woman from North Riverside has been charged with misdemeanor assault, criminal damage to property, and criminal damage to land after an incident at a North Riverside apartment building located in the 8000 block of Edgewater in North Riverside.
The woman was arrested on Feb. 5 after a resident of the building reported to the property manager that he heard someone kick in the door to the mechanical room. The property manager went into the mechanical room and found the woman there. According to the police report the property manager knows the woman from previous incidents and had informed her that she is not allowed on the property and had to leave. The woman allegedly then threatened the property manager and attempted to punch her. The young woman then allegedly fled, but was found and taken into custody by two North Riverside police officers in the 2900 block of Lincoln. In a follow up interview with police the property manager alleged that the woman meets men and sometimes has sex with them in the storage and mechanical rooms of the building as well as smoking and selling marijuana there. She also alleged that the woman intentionally damaged pipes in the electrical room at 8007 Edgewater causing flooding in the room.
The police recommended upgrading, or installing, locks for mechanical, electrical, and storage rooms.
Contraband found in stolen car
A car that had been reported stolen was found in Brookfield with drug paraphernalia inside. A red 2004 Nissan Altima was found parked at Sahler and Maple. Inside the car was an empty 32 oz bottle of beer, two small multicolored glass pipes that are used to ingest cannabis, one large glass pipe used to ingest cannabis, a congested respirator mask used to ingest inhalants, and a small amount of loose cannabis. The car was towed to a parking lot and the owner was informed that he could be pick up the car. The owner of the car denied any knowledge of the contents inside the car. No arrest was made. All the contraband was placed in a locker at the Brookfield police station.
Dress reported stolen
A Brookfield woman reported that a package containing a dress valued at $755 was stolen from her apartment building on Valentines Day. Five days earlier a package containing clothing worth $32 was also reported stolen. No arrests have been made.
House egged in Brookfield
A man living in a house in the 3900 block of Oak in Brookfield was sitting in his living room when he heard a loud bang near his front door at around 1 a.m. on Feb. 18. The man looked out his living room window but did not see anyone. He then called police. The home had surveillance cameras which showed footage of two teenage boys walking by the house. One boy went up toward the front porch where a broken egg was found. However, the video was unable to capture a clear image of the suspect’s face. No other homes on the block were egged and no arrests were made.

Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
