Riverside Brookfield's stellar season came to an end last week with Trinity handing the Bulldogs a 58-44 loss in Game 2 of the Lyons Township Sectional.

Trinity's onslaught of scoring production proved too much for RB, which was without Katelyn McCloskey due to an injury early in the game.

The Blazers (21-10) led 14-11 at halftime and 21-17 after three quarters, before outscoring RB by 10 points in the final period.

Lykendra Johnson led the Blazers (21-10) with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Alison Sansone finished with 13 points, including nailing 10 of 12 free throws. Katie Jarger added 11 points, and Tony Carter 10 for the Blazers, who 69-61 to fifth-ranked Fenwick in the sectional title game on Thursday.

Maggie McCloskey led the Bulldogs with 18 points, four assists and two steals. Meghan Hutchens added 16 points and eight rebounds.

RB's overall record of 27-4 this season was the best in the history of the girls' basketball program at the high school. The Bulldogs also won their first regional title in 22 years this season, as well as went undefeated in the Suburban Prairie (East) Conference.

The team graduates seven players this season in Meghan Hutchens, Lauren O'Brien, Heather Comrie, Laura Wojcik, Mary Wei, Danielle Schoenheider and Rachel Lauterbach.

LT falls hard

Lyons Township's late-season downfall hit rock-bottom on Friday night when the Lions (19-6, 8-4) failed to dispatch Downers Grove North in a nail-biting barnburner with at least a share of the West Suburban (Silver) Conference title on the line.

LT lost to the Trojans (10-16, 6-6) 50-47, missing out on sharing the WSC title with Oak Park and River Forest, who defeated Proviso West on Friday night.

The Lions hosted Nazareth on Tuesday night (after deadline) in the first round of the Lyons Regional. A win would pit them against either Morton or Riverside-Brookfield in the title game on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Win streak snapped

Riverside-Brookfield fell to Fenton 82-78 in overtime on Friday night, snapping the team's 17-game Suburban Prairie Conference win streak.

The Bulldogs (15-10, 7-1) were led by Alex Devaris's 32 points, seven assists, and four steals. Mike Halusek added 19 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Matt Sandrik added 10 points and six rebounds.

The Bulldogs suffered a setback when leading rebounder and third leading scorer, Tyler Kos, suffered a hairline fracture to his nose during the game.

Three straight 3-pointers by Brother Rice to open a non-conference matchup on Feb. 23 knocked the wind out of the Bulldogs in a 73-61 loss. The loss was bitter-sweet for the Bulldogs as Devaris connected on seven 3-pointers of his own and finished the night with 28 points.

RB struggled thereafter, trailing 40-30 at halftime, but managed to cut the deficit to five at one point in the third quarter. Brother Rice ended up with an eight-point lead at the end of the quarter and the Crusaders made their free throws in the final period to close out the win.

Kos added 12 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs, while Halusek finished with 10 points.

The Bulldogs will take on Morton tonight (Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.) at Lyons Township in the first round of the regional playoffs.
