Riverside officials on March 17 moved to shutter all municipal buildings and offices to the public in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and emergency orders from Gov. J.B. Pritzker designed to blunt the spread of the disease.

Employees will continue to report for work and services will continue to be provided online or by phone and email. Residents are encouraged to use Riverside’s online bill payment web page or drop checks in the drop box located outside the Riverside Township Hall, 27 Riverside Road.

Building permit applications and contractor license applications, which can also be found online, can also be placed in the drop box or emailed to wbouman@riverside.il.us.

If there are issues in the village that require immediate attention, residents can communicate directly with staff through the Riverside Responds app on their smartphones and or through the village’s website.

The Riverside Village Board will meet as scheduled on Thursday, March 19 at 7 p.m., but the meeting will be conducted virtually, with trustees participating via phone. Members of the public who wish to listen in can do so through Riverside TV’s livestream.

Anyone wishing to make public comment, can submit those to Village Clerk Cathy Haley at chaley@riverside.il.us.

Riverside Township cancels events

Also in response to the governor’s emergency declarations limiting public gatherings, Riverside Township officials have canceled several programs and events until further notice.

Those include the senior citizen exercise classes held Monday, Wednesday and Friday at noon and the weekly Thursday afternoon movie matinee. The Riverside Township Radio Players have canceled their performances scheduled for March, April and May.

The township assessor’s office is not accepting walk-in appointments at this time. Anyone who needs help with a property tax assessment question can call 708-447-7700.

Meanwhile, Suicide Prevention and Awareness Event that is scheduled for March 28 will be held, but it will be closed to the public. The event will be recorded by Riverside TV and will be broadcast online at the Riverside TV website.
