Thank you for providing American Legion Post #488 a great advertisement in the April 1 issue of The Landmark. Your newspaper is part of the community just as much as Post #0488 and now, Sons of the American Legion Squadron #488, is part of the community. When all is said, we all serve our fellow citizens.

American Legion Post #488 has an additional responsibility to ensure the veteran community is doing well during these very trying times. To that end, on March 27, we had our monthly meeting virtually through the online conferencing platform known as Zoom. Fourteen people attended, and it was a great uplifting experience. Post #0488 will continue to reach out to our veteran community virtually in four ways.

First, we will help all post members, squadron members, and any other veterans access Zoom so they can attend monthly meetings. Our latest post meeting was also virtual via Zoom on April 10.

Our guest speaker was Major Gen. (Retired) Elder Granger, U.S. Army Medical Corps. More information about Gen. Granger can be found at the5psllc.com/mg_elder_granger.html. He was an incredibly inspirational speaker.

Second, in response to the pandemic and both the physical and mental toll the situation may bring on not only for Post #488 members but all veterans everywhere, we will be holding weekly, Wednesday Zoom meetings from 4:30 to 6 p.m. CST as a form of "buddy check."

Veterans are welcome to drop in and out as they please as it is not an official meeting. For the casual comfort of everyone, this meeting will not be recorded and people can be as open or as anonymous as they please.

Third, we will be constantly updating our website. The official website for American Legion Post #488 is americanlegionpost488.weebly.com. At this site, veterans can see our meeting information, our calendar, contact information, meeting agendas/minutes, and more. Veterans should check the site out and let us know what they think!

In addition, veterans and other members of the community can find links to our allies including Bugles Across America, Guardian Corps, The Pritzker Military Museum and Library, Combined Veterans of Berwyn, the Riverside Lions Club and the Landmark. These organizations need our support especially in these challenging times.

Finally, we are constantly improving our Facebook site at facebook.com/americanlegionriverside. This is a great way to see photos of legion events, keep up to date with veteran resources and to contact us. Our Facebook site is easy to use and people can share their own pages for more exposure to more people, and ultimately, to more veterans who need valuable information.

Veterans needing help in setting up Zoom should reach out to the post at americanlegionriverside@gmail.com. Members of the community with ideas of how Post #0488 and Squadron #488 can more actively engage with our fellow citizens should feel free to reach out to us as well.
